SUMMARY OF THE PROGRAM

Race 1

There doesn’t look too many chances in the opening event, although happy enough to go with Kaniana who should prove hard to beat based on recent form. Both Dulverton and Bonnie Belle come from the same race last start and if they bring that form then each could make their presence felt.

Race 2

Raw Impulse will start one of the shorter priced favourites on the day and will no doubt be hard to beat.

Race 3

Open race with a lot of lightly-raced and improving gallopers. The debut of Tara Iti was huge and even though the form out of that race hasn’t been inspiring, it was nonetheless a solid performance against the bias and tempo. Junior Burger and Benny Goes Berserk will both improve with the blinkers going on, while Larrikin is another at big odds that could be value.

Race 4

Best bet of the day here with Moss’N’Dale who maps well, remains in excellent and consistent form and while many believe he is a wet tracker, his run in defeat to Divine Mr Archie recently showed he is also effective on a firm surface.

Race 5

A competitive race, and the best ride might go a long way to winning this one. Assuming there will be quite a bit of pressure, there was a lot to like about the run of O’Malley resuming after over a year off. He clocked some of the best sections on the day and covered ground doing so. With a better run in transit, he looks terrific each way value. However, Furnaces ran third to Chautauqua last year in this race and his recent trial was outstanding. He is a major chance. Sheidel goes well fresh while Heatherly might prove hard to run down.

Race 6

Once again, a very competitive race. By this stage of the day we will know how the track is playing. If leaders/on-pacers are suited, then a solid case can be made for Athena Lass. She has been excellent on both starts to date and won at MV already. Stablemate Sebring Dream has more than a touch of quality about her and will get a good run and looks a strong contender. The same applies to Tan Tat Beauty. Of the others, hard to ignore the profile of Western Australian galloper Whispering Brook who is unbeaten in five starts.

Race 7

Hard to knock the recent form of Voodoo Lad who should prove hard to beat again. However, if they are swooping, then Fast’ n’Rocking looks a very good chance to atone following a series of highly respectable performances. Keen Array didn’t come up last prep but is talented.

Race 8

The best value each way bet here is Suavito. She has an excellent second-up record and in a fast run Lawrence Stakes (a race where many rivals competed), she clocked great closing sections. The blinkers go back on and provided she gets the right run, she looks a top chance to figure considering she has had two starts at MV for a win and a second. However, this is a strong race and a good case can be made for so many.

Race 9

The recent form of Killarney Kid and O’Lonera is solid and think the winner might come from either one, with a slight preference for the latter who has some tactical versatility.
